This is a short list of books I would personally recommend. Most have lengthy bibliographies to take you further. As an adult educator I try to choose books I think you would enjoy and benefit from reading rather than books universities place on student booklists because they believe they should read them!

You're a gifted storyteller, and I love your lectures. You bring history to life in such a disarming way that you vivify long-dead figures. I too am a Churchillian, an ardent admirer of one of the 2 towering figures of the last century (for me) Churchill and Nelson Mandela, the hope of my former home, South Africa. Thank you.
Thank you for all your talks, but particularly for the talks on Churchill. They are wonderful.
